CWARE Collaborative
The Child Welfare and Racial Equity (CWARE) Collaborative is a group of organizations and individuals that have come together to promote a radical anti-racist transformation of the child welfare system. We are a team of organizational policy experts and advocates with lived expertise who have survived the child welfare systems as children, youth, parents, kinship caregivers, and foster parents. We’re united by a vision of children, parents, and families free to thrive in their homes and communities.

Our Members Said
I joined the collaborative because I have been inspired by the other members and Aubrey’s leadership in committing to have honest and challenging conversations about race and child welfare in a way that grounds the work in the human connections that are necessary to create real change.
To make a difference in individual lives, it will take concerted action to build new, equitable systems, and I believe in the Collaborative’s lived-expert-guided approach towards making the vision of a transformed child welfare system a reality.
I joined the Collaborative because race and intersectionality have to be considered as we continue to reform child welfare. The system as we know it was designed to fail persons of color and if we want to make it better we have to refocus on the fundamental failings and build solutions with the children, youth, and families that have been directly affected.
